OTHER THINGS & DEFINITIONS
Crossdreamers, girlfags, guydykes: please no, don't use this as a label or pretend it's a part of your gender identity; it's kind of homophobic/transphobic. If the thought of homosexual or transsexual people arouses you, that's a fetish and not an "identity." Plus, "fag" and "dyke" are slurs. If you want to be in a romantic and/or sexual relationship with someone who would never be attracted to you (for example a cishet woman attracted to gay men, aka a girlfag) well... good luck with that. If you truly believe you are "a female born in a male body," you would likely have some form of Gender Identity Disorder to go with it.
FTM means "born a female, transitioned to male." MTF means "born a male, transitioned to female." You can't be FTM/MTF unless you are transsexual. I've seen people claiming it's possible to be a FTM woman, and no you can't. If you were designated female at birth (DFAB) but realized you are a man and underwent medical procedures to transition your body to the proper sex, you are male (trans man, FTM).
Gender and sexuality are complicated and there don't need to be billions of terms/descriptions for every single variation. It's kind of like this:
So being too specific about your gender/sexuality is close to useless, as it's impossible to accurately quantify. The broader categories are generally best in almost all circumstances.
DEMIGENDER, NAN0GENDER, & OTHER NONSENSE
Demigender, magigender, nan0gender, gyaragender: please don't use these labels. These words just mean "I'm cis but I don't think I'm SUPER cis so I want to be transgender and co-opt trans spaces" and, as you might imagine, that's a bad thing (see the dysphoria comments above).
Nan0gender was literally made up as satire (a mock gender identity) on 17 June 2014. As it was taken somehow taken seriously, the definition basically became this:
- "Nan0girl: Refers to someone whose gender is made up of a very small concentration of female, as well as something else. Nan0boy: Refers to someone whose gender is made up of a very small concentration of male, as well as something else." — demigenders
- Nan0gender can be thus be assumed to be on the other end of "demigender" as demigender people identify with their birth gender with a small concentration of something else. Or if you use a different definition, then there is little to no distinction between demigender and nan0gender and both terms can be used interchangeably.
- People identifying as nan0gender don't seem to know that the terms "masculine" and "feminine" exist and therefore make the nan0gender identifier obsolete.
- Since nan0gender is a joke that transtrenders latched onto, all definitions are essentially useless since they're just attaching phrases to a random word they found. They're literally making things up, and they don't even try to cover this up - instead, transtrenders are encouraging such blatant transphobia.
Demigender definitions vary:
- "[Demigender] basically means you identify as "half" female or "half" male. Or, you don't identify very strongly as such, but feel more female/male than not. Some people use it to describe that they're biologically female/male but not very attached to their gender identity. It depends on you really." — Silver
- "Even though the majority of my gender falls outside of the binary, enough of me resonates with my assigned gender that I do not mind being associated with it." — Arcovia
- "Someone assigned female or male at birth who feels but the barest association with that identification, though not a significant enough dissociation to create real physical discomfort or dysphoria" — Nalle Neversure
- "A demigirl is someone who only partially (not wholly) identifies as a girl or woman, whatever their biological sex. They may or may not identify as another gender in addition to feeling partially a girl or woman." — nonbinary wiki
- "Bigender: experience two full genders. Demigender: experience two half genders." — ufojpeg
- More definitions here.
- Transmasculine and transfeminine are very similar to demigirl/demiboy.
Magigender is slightly more specific than demigender, but it's even closer to cisgender.
- There are all sorts of problems with this.
- Gyaragender was invented because someone jokingly said "magigender" sounds like "magikarp." Then transtrenders decided it sounded cool.
Cisgender is identifying with your birth gender/sex ("Cisgender and cissexual - often abbreviated to simply cis - describe related types of gender identity where an individual's experience of their own gender matches the sex they were assigned at birth") even if you don't identify exactly 100% with it. So demigender and nan0gender people are typically cis; not identifying "strongly" with your birth gender is perfectly normal and doesn't mean you're a different gender.
Another reason not to make up new gender identities every few hours: resonance. People will connect to things that have relevance to them. "The basic key to resonance is this: People respond more freely to things they already understand. If something is strange or foreign, you have to spend time trying to figure it out and are more skeptical when it comes to accepting it. If something is familiar, you are able to comprehend it much quicker and thus are more willing to accept it." — Mark Rosewater. While this quote isn't about gender or sexuality, it's still representative of how things work in real life and should be considered.
