#BringBackOurGirls / Boko Haram
- Like most western reactions to foreign events, people have started to forget about this after the initial pouring of outraged internet slacktivism and inaccuracies. "Hashtag activism" has become a bit polarizing, with arguments against it and for it.
- Education is a global problem. "Boko Haram is assassinating teachers, attacking schools and kidnapping students because it knows that literacy is the enemy of extremism. Terrorists understand the power of education. Do we?"
- Nigeria claimed to know where the kidnapped girls are in late May. A member of Boko Haram has said they are in good health and are being treated well, although the group has been threatening to kidnap more boys and forcibly marry them to the girls.
- 63 more girls were kidnapped and 30 boys were murdered. The girls escaped.
- Boko Haram takes advantage of poverty to recruit. While they do suffer setbacks, it's easy to get more people (through bribery) and supplies (taking advantage of corruption in high places).
- Boko Haram has killed over 10000 people of all ages and genders, issuing bomb threats, forcing people to convert to Islam or die, etc. The media doesn't always cover these things, especially if the victims are black males.
- India is now seeing Boko Haram members and an increase in drug trafficking.
