MEN’S RIGHTS ACTIVISTS (MRAs) / Men’s Rights Movement (MRM)
If you call yourself an MRA, don’t be an asshole. Many self-proclaimed MRAs are (do note that the article in the link is slightly biased toward Feminism, and not all information is correct, but the overall point is still relatively valid). Note that I do not support in any way most - if not all - groups (The Spearhead, A Voice For Men, Return of the Kings, etc). Prominent MRAs such as Paul Elam are not people I agree with.
As counter-culture to Feminism, the MRM could be seen as a positive force in the sense that it balances out feminism's focus on female rights - men do have issues that should be looked at. However, many MRAs are shitty people and radicals of the movement (just like how some feminists are radicals of the movement). It goes both ways. Misogyny is not okay, and I’ve seen some MRAs exhibit such attitudes. Neither movement (feminism/MRM) is full of goodwill and problem-solving like they should be. Heated opinions or vague feelings are not facts. Only facts are facts.
I don’t agree with the MRM just like I don’t agree with the overall Feminist movement. Both movements have their share of despicable people.
I saw a comment claiming the Southern Poverty Law Center called MRAs a hate group. It turns out they didn't: "It should be mentioned that the SPLC did not label MRAs as members of a hate movement; nor did our article claim that the grievances they air on their websites – false rape accusations, ruinous divorce settlements and the like – are all without merit. But we did call out specific examples of misogyny..." — Arthur Goldwag (a few of the comments on this make valid points as well)
Side note: Pick-up Artists (PUAs) are not MRAs, they're pretty much just scumbags trying to get laid by hanging out in bars/clubs and buying books about pseudoscience that don't actually do anything. They have an even worse reputation than MRAs.
ANTI-FEMINISM
Anti-Feminism is not supposed to be anti-women or anti-equality. It is primarily based around the idea that modern Western Feminism (third wave feminism) is mostly obsolete as a movement, since women are not oppressed in first world countries and enjoy the same rights as men (if not better rights, in some cases). Some feminist writers are classified as anti-feminists despite identifying as feminists. (source)
Many feminists - especially on Tumblr - fight for (or claim to fight for) irrelevant things, rights they already have, extra rights on top of what they already have, better rights than men, etc. “Not all feminists are like that” (NAFALT) is a common reply to this, to which people sometimes respond “yes, but too many feminists are like that, so maybe you should do something about it instead of allowing radicals to run your movement.” Radical feminists influence laws and policies which hurt both men and women. Moderate pro-equality feminists aren’t nearly as vocal or active within the feminist community.
Organizations such as LAF (Ladies Against Feminism) have arisen in opposition to the existence of modern feminism; while I don’t agree with much of what LAF says, they are a female group opposed to feminism. The fact that some women are anti-feminists proves that Anti-Feminism is not supposed to be anti-women or anti-equality. “Internalized misogyny” is a terrible argument so don’t use it.
Some anti-feminists ARE anti-women or anti-equality, which is why I do not consider myself an anti-feminist; I am very much pro-equality.
